ISMI Councils
ISMI Councils serve as essential forums for benchmarking and information-sharing among member company technologists and professionals. The Councils’ value is driven by the active participation of members: to get results, each member must contribute to the group by providing data and expertise for the benefit of the whole council. This concept is called “Give-to-Get.”
Shared data can include metrics, benchmarking or success stories on topics selected and agreed to by council members. ISMI Councils also conduct special benchmark surveys requested by members.
Councils typically meet between two and four times per year, either in person, when networking is key to information exchange, or by virtual participation in meetings when travel is prohibitive.
As a part of face-to-face council meetings, manufacturing operations tours and supplier visits are often arranged for the group.
Operations Councils
ISMI's Operations Councils focus on areas inside the factory affecting wafer production, such as: manufacturing methods, yield improvement methodologies, facilities, test, wafer probe, and other areas.
- Manufacturing Methods Council - provides a forum for ISMI members to share best practices in manufacturing productivity
- Facilities Council - assists member companies in implementing cost-effective, environmentally sensitive and technologically competitive facilities solutions in support of world-class semiconductor manufacturing
- Wafer Probe Council - works to improve member company value in wafer probing technology and methods
- Yield Council - provides a forum for ISMI members to share best practices in yield management in areas such as low-yielding wafers, automatic defect classification, and defect inspection/identification.
- Test Council - chartered to explore, share and drive ideas on test methods, test operations and reliable, low-cost equipment solutions
Business Councils
ISMI’s Business Councils concentrate on areas not directly related to manufacturing, such as quality, procurement methods, device reliability, failure analysis, supplier relations, logistics, and statistical methods. Business Councils recently were opened to non-members of ISMI.
- Critical Materials Council - establishes and maintains industry coordination for key materials and supply chain issues
- Reliability Council - provides guidance and a voice to the Quality Council, SEMATECH, ISMI, and the chip industry on issues related to technology reliability and product qualification.
- Supplier Relations Action Council (SRAC) - furnishes member companies with benchmarking and best known methods for equipment procurement and supply chain management. SRAC also offers a common voice to equipment suppliers on technical, capacity, and cost requirements.
- Statistics Council - promotes statistical methods in all member business processes, including manufacturing, supply chain, quality control and technology development.
- Failure Analysis Council - serves as a forum for members to share best practices in failure analysis techniques and lab processes
- Quality Council - provides a framework for best practices sharing and benchmarking related to quality systems and standards, and for quality and reliability processes and technology
- Semiconductor Logistics Forum - improves competitiveness by developing and implementing innovative, faster, and more cost-effective global logistics solutions
