Preface

The SEMATECH Style Guide establishes guidelines for communicating SEMATECH information effectively—a SEMATECH style—and promoting the use of common, widely applied treatments for tables, executive summaries, etc. This approach serves the broad customer base of SEMATECH better than adopting standards from any single company, professional organization, or government organization.

Sources

As much as possible, The Chicago Manual of Style was used to establish these standards because it is widely accepted. The Handbook of Technical Writing provided standards for topics that are unique to technical documentation. Some topics required more specialized expertise.

Related Resources

This document is one of several SEMATECH resources developed especially for SEMATECH writers. Companion documents are SEMATECH Official Dictionary and SEMATECH Acronyms and Abbreviation List.

Audience

This document, along with the above resources, provides style and format guidelines for SEMATECH engineer-authors, Tech Transfer personnel, and staff of other companies and organizations who produce technical documentation for SEMATECH.
