Abstract:  This document is a brief statement of eight member companies of
the International SEMATECH Quality Council opposing the practice
of upscreening. Upscreening is the practice of using components
in applications or environments for which they were not designed
or intended. The eight companies are IBM, Infineon, Intel, Hynix,
Motorola, Philips, Texas Instruments, and TSMC.
