ISMI Symposium to Feature “State of Semiconductor Manufacturing” Panel Discussion

Top experts to discuss current and future manufacturing issues in G7 countries

Austin, TX (14 October 2008) – In a timely panel discussion, leading financial and industry experts will address concerns surrounding the current and future direction of semiconductor manufacturing in G7 countries—US, Japan, Germany, France, the UK, Canada and Italy—on October 23, during the 5th Annual ISMI Symposium on Manufacturing Effectiveness.

The panel entitled “Will Semiconductor Manufacturing Survive in the G7 Countries?” will be led by world-renowned industry expert G. Dan Hutcheson, CEO of VLSI Research. Other panelists include the following high-profile executives:

  • Brett Hodess, deputy director of US Equity Research and co-leader of the technology sector for Merrill Lynch
  • Mike Cadigan, general manager, Semiconductor Solutions, Global Engineering Solutions of IBM
  • Harvey Frye, president, Tokyo Electron America (TEA)
  • Kenneth Flamm, professor and Dean Rusk chair in International Affairs at the LBJ School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas at Austin.

“The sudden drop in commodity prices and the turmoil in the financial markets have prompted global concerns about the impact on the wider economy,” said Hutcheson. “The objective of the panel is to address tough questions on real-world barriers posed by the unfolding economy and its effect on the future state of semiconductor manufacturing, specifically in G7 countries.”

ISMI’s Manufacturing Week, featuring the 5th Annual ISMI Symposium, will showcase technical courses and workshops, supplier exhibits, technical posters and networking events for equipment and software suppliers, chipmakers and other semiconductor manufacturing high-tech professionals. The event will take place from October 20-23 at the Hilton Austin Airport in Austin, Texas.

This year’s panel discussion is open to all registered ISMI Symposium attendees; for more information, please visit http://ismi.sematech.org/ismisymposium
