Matsushita’s Michihiro Inoue to Keynote Innovative 3rd ISMI Symposium

Austin, TX (22 August, 2006) — Michihiro Inoue, executive engineer of Matsushita Semiconductor Company, will keynote the 3rd ISMI Symposium on Manufacturing Effectiveness Oct. 9-11 in Austin, TX—kicking off a three-day exploration of breakthrough strategies for productivity and cost-cutting in semiconductor fabs.

Inoue’s talk, “Advanced System-on-Chip Manufacturing in the Digital Consumer Electronics Era,” will set the tone for a cutting-edge conference covering the spectrum of chip-making concerns—from rapid tool installation, to yield improvement methodologies, to risk-reduction in high-volume manufacturing. Inoue, whose company manufactures the Panasonic brand, will speak at 8:30 a.m. Oct. 10 in the Austin Hilton Airport hotel, site of the conference.

“We’ve designed the ISMI Symposium as a learning center where you can find solutions to help your company prosper while also honing your career skills,” said Scott Kramer, ISMI director. “A special feature this year is our technical briefing on the status of 300 mm Prime and 450 mm wafer transition.”

Key elements of the ISMI Symposium include:

  • More than 70 papers in concurrent sessions on fab productivity, equipment productivity, manufacturing sustainability, statistical methods, simulation and modeling, yield and metrology, and environmental design
  • An in-depth technical discussion during the afternoon of Oct. 11 on the industry’s envisioned transition to 450 mm wafers, during which suppliers and chip-makers will be invited to proactively exchange perspectives and issues. During the session, ISMI will release additional details on 300 mm Prime, a strategy for bridging to 450 mm through incremental improvements in equipment and factory design and architecture.
  • A first-time product exhibition, with informative displays from approximately 30 suppliers of software and parts and equipment for factory equipment for automation, processing, metrology and control
  • A robust set of poster sessions on topics augmenting the conference sessions

The ISMI Symposium remains open to sponsors, which to date include AMCG, Si Automation, SEMI, and Applied Materials. Industry journals MICRO and Solid State Technology are serving as media sponsors.
