ISMI and MICRO Magazine to Offer Technical Series on Manufacturing Effectiveness

Los Angeles, CA and Austin, TX (4 October, 2004) - The International SEMATECH Manufacturing Initiative (ISMI) will produce a landmark, four-part technical article series on manufacturing effectiveness for MICRO magazine under terms of a publishing agreement announced today by both organizations.

ISMI, a subsidiary of SEMATECH, was formed earlier this year as a new consortium dedicated to helping semiconductor manufacturers improve factory productivity, reduce cost per wafer, and ultimately lower cost per die. ISMI members include AMD, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Infineon, Intel, Freescale, Philips, Texas Instruments and TSMC. ISMI is headquartered in Austin.

"We're pleased with this opportunity to showcase the unique strengths and insights of ISMI, which is the world's only consortium focused exclusively on manufacturing effectiveness," said Scott Kramer, ISMI director. "This forum fits well into our overall strategy of increasing industry collaboration through shared knowledge of manufacturing processes."

"The economic pressures on the semiconductor manufacturing community have grown exponentially in recent years," noted Tom Cheyney, MICRO 's editor in chief. "We're excited to partner with ISMI to help disseminate the latest information and technologies that the consortium and its member companies are developing to maximize fab productivity and profitability."

The ISMI series, appearing in 2005, will include technically oriented original articles on fab productivity; metrology; environment, safety, and health; and other key industry topics. Articles are slated to run in the magazine's January/February; April; June; and August/September issues. The articles also will be made available online at MICRO 's website, www.micromagazine.com.
